So mom picked Les Chefs de France for her birthday dinner. I was a little weary of going there because online reviews had said the food was bad, service sucked, etc. Plus France always equals snobby service. But that couldn’t be further from the truth! Honestly this was my best meal of the trip.
Our waiter was (name) and from Monaco too. He was extremely nice, welcoming and walked us through the whole menu. We both ordered the same thing: shrimp bisque, braised beef and chocolate cake. Everything was extremely yummy. I loved the creaminess of the bisque. The beef was excellent as it was braised in a delicious red wine sauce and placed on top of noodles and mushrooms. Each of us must’ve had a pound of meat on the plate. I’m thinking we got extra because it was her birthday. The chocolate cake…forgettable. I wish I ordered the creme brûlée instead.
We never saw Chef Remy which was sad. I was looking forward to seeing him. The bill came and I thought to myself, “Doesn’t mom get a birthday song?” The next thing I know the whole staff is coming by singing “Happy Birthday” en francois. Yes truly a magical moment and mom even got a kiss from the waiter (which made her day but she will never admit to it).
We then were able to meet up with my two friends, John and Glenn. As chance would be, we all ate at the same restaurant just different times. We hung around France for awhile and I was introduced to the best pastries… Boulangerie Patisserie. Mmmm nice looking Frenchmen and sweets? Have I died? Yes, this place was worth a stop (or two) and the macaroons were delicious.
We saw Illuminations. It was good but nothing too spectacular. I then headed off with John to “drink around the world.” By world, I just meant Germany and for $8 you can’t go wrong for a big stein of beer. That made the extra magic hours even more magical. Add no line for Test Track (fucking awesome yeah) and the night was complete. I think I had more fun on mom’s birthday than my own.
