The one place I wanted to eat at since I was small was the San Angel Inn or as I referred to it as the restaurant the boat ride goes through. We was so excited to get reservations for the restaurant. But first we were to needed to finish exploring the rest of the World Showcase.

We breezed through China, where mom found a nice pocketbook. We then headed to Norway and saw the line for Maelstrom was long and decided to pass. We then went off to Mexico for our dinner reservations.

The Mexico Pavilion is such a transformation from the outside to the inside. Once you walk in you’re in a Mexican marketplace at night. I love the theming of this pavilion the most. The Mayan temple in the background still fascinates me. We were seated almost by the “waterfront” and had a great view. Every so often you would see a volcano in the background “erupt.” San Angel Inn is just a great dining experience. You really feel as if you’re dining outside in the Mexican nighttime.

It's Really Dark Inside

Travel Tip: It’s really dark in the restaurant, which makes reading the menu extremely difficult. Maybe get a copy before you sit down and plan ahead.

I just wish the food lived up to expectations. Maybe I’m spoiled living in the Chicago area and having the ability to get authentic Mexican food within minutes. Here, the food didn’t “wow” me. The atmosphere is definitely what sells this place. I had my “happy birthday” sung in Spanish with a candle in my dessert of crepes and caramel sauce.

After dinner we hit the Three Callaberos ride. I love Donald Duck but I kinda miss El Rio de Tiempo. My favorite part was always the street vendor who would try and sell you a item in a couple different scenes. That’s now gone and replaced with the new ride. It’s still cute but I actually preferred the older version.

By the time we finished it was nighttime outside. I love how the Mexican pavilion changes on the outside. The lighting is excellent. Illuminations was just starting and since this would be our 3rd time seeing it, we decided to head back and pack things up for our trip home.
